Richard John Loughlin died peacefully in San Francisco, California, on August 1, 2006 after a brief illness.  Dick was a native Californian, born in Los Angeles on April 18, 1932, and most recently resided in Napa, California.
 
Following his education at the University of California at Los Angeles, and military service during the Korean Campaign, Loughlin joined his family’s real estate business in the San Fernando Valley.
In 1973 he co-founded Century 21 Real Estate of Northern California, Inc., one of the largest and most successful regions in the Century 21 system.  He served as its President and Regional Director until 1981, when he was appointed President and CEO of the Irvine based Century 21 Real Estate Corporation.  He held that position until November of 1995 when he retired and was appointed President Emeritus.
 
Loughlin’s prior affiliations included a position on the Board of Directors of the National
Association of Realtors, the National Easter Seal Society, InspectTech, and FMAC; Chairman of Western Relocation Management Inc., Chairman of the Real Estate National Networks (RENN), Director of the Housing Roundtable and a member of the Policy Advisory Board of the Center for Real Estate and Urban Economics for the University of California at Berkeley.
 
Among his most recent enterprises, Loughlin was a proud co-owner of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers football team.  His passion for his team was evident to everyone who knew him and he will be missed at the games.  His spirit will live on among the team members and owners of the Panthers.
Dick’s family and wide circle of friends were always a great source of pride and joy to him.  Retirement enabled him to spend many happy hours attending his grandchildren’s sports activities and helping them chart their future.
 
He will be long remembered for his ability to captivate an audience, his strong leadership, quick wit, sense of humor and optimism for life.  Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Mildred.  He is survived by Bobbie, his wife of 27 years, and their combined family of five children Lorin, Lance, Kevin, Greg and David, as well as four grandchildren Ryan, Sean and Connor Loughlin and Olivia Yazzolino.
